On the Town

One night away can seem like so much longer when you leave three children at home! Obviously it's easier when you know that the chidlers are being well cared for and we are incredibly lucky in that respect because my parents and sister are always happy willing to help out.

So we had a night in London and even got a room with a view of the Albert Hall......

ok, only just!

Steven was lecturing on Friday afternoon so I had a couple of hours on my own to kill. I had a walk down to Knightsbridge and then made my way back up to the V&A - hmm, I guess I'm not cultured enough because I found it pretty boring in there. I then made my way back to the Natural History Museum and had lunch in the cafe overlooking the skating rink. By this time I was getting a bit fed up with my own company so when an old guy in the cafe beckoned to me to sit with him I figured there'd be no harm.......and to be fair there wasn't any harm but he was incredibly drunk!! What a character though!
After lunch I went into the NHM to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. Wow! It was pretty humbling. My favourite shot of all was this one. The only thing I found a little strange was that the images were all displayed on screens - I was expecting to see actual photographs.

When Steven finished work we had a wander round Harrods and appraised the incredibly ugly, ridiculously expensive furniture on sale (do millionaires really have no taste?!) and then went for a meal before getting back to the room and in bed in time to watch the final of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here .... we sure know how to live!!

On Saturday we wandered around a bit, took in a few sights.....

went to the National Portrait Gallery to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibition and the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize and to the theatre to see Rain Man starring the gorgeous Josh Hartnett.
Regents Street and Oxford Street were closed to traffic for the day and there was a lovely street fair atmosphere - helped by crisp, bright weather. The shops were packed and there was very little evidence of the current financial crisis that the media keep harping on about.
And we were still home in time to see the X-Factor - a perfect weekend!!
